Isla Holbox

Holbox ("black hole" in Yucatec Maya) is an island in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located on the north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is approximately 41.84 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide, and it is separated from the mainland by a shallow lagoon that is home to flamingos, pelicans and other rich birdlife.

The island is accessed by ferry from the mainland town of Chiquila, and has virtually no cars, with transport by most residents and tourists by golf cart or moped.

The entrance of vehicles is not allowed at Holbox in order to protect the environment

Daughtry Summer Concert

On August 27, we saw Daughtry perform at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in Vancouver.

The kids prepared a sign which Daughtry acknowledged early in the concert by reading its message out loud while on stage!

During the final song, the cameraman filmed Naimah hoisting the sign up and then projected it on the big screen. As you can see from the concert set list below, the message on the sign matched perfectly with the finale.

Ruckle Provincial Park, Salt Spring Island

Ruckle Provincial Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the southern Gulf Islands. Pitch your tent in the grassy meadow overlooking Swanson Channel then lie back and relax, watching pleasure boats and ferries sail by in a stately and colourful parade.

With its 7 kilometres of shoreline, rocky headlands and tiny coves and bays, Ruckle Park provides hours or even days of enjoyable exploration. A mixture of forest, field and shore habitats makes it one of the most productive wildlife viewing areas on Salt Spring Island. Watch for sea lions and killer whales out in the sea, and mink and river otter cavorting along the shoreline. Tidal pools are filled with a brightly-coloured world of crab, mussel, limpet, oyster, sculpin, starfish and more.

BC Parks

Ruckle Park protects a variety of habitats resulting in a high diversity of wildlife species using the area – in our case, this meant a large number of Canadian geese who enjoyed sharing our campsite with us.

The Canada goose is a large wild goose species with a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brown body.
