Koala Hospital, Port Macquarie, New South Wales

Between 200 and 250 koalas are admitted to the Koala Hospital annually. Apart from Chlamydia, motor vehicle accidents and dog attacks are the most common cause of injuries sustained, predominantly during the breeding season.

The Koala Hospital consists of a treatment room, 8 Intensive Care Units, 6 outdoor intensive care units and 33 rehabilitation yards, many of which have trees for koalas to learn to climb as part of the rehabilitation process.

During recuperation, the koalas are moved from the Intensive Care Wing into the outdoor yards to enjoy the sunshine.

Lakes Way, New South Wales

The Lakes Way is a coastal tourist route of 77km in length, beginning 9km south of Taree and ending 5km east of Bulahdelah. The scenic drive passes through pretty beach and lakeside communities and is a peaceful change from the busy highways.

Booti Booti National Park is bordered by Wallis Lake on one side and the ocean on the other, practically surrounded by water.

Pacific Palms is just south of the national park and offers lakeside views from the road on the way into town. Opposite the lake are the beaches which are stunning. Elizabeth and Boomerang Beaches are very similar with prominent headlands and gorgeous scenery to boot.
